Jian-zhi Chen- Innovative Glass craft

Zi-Yun Wang Eiku's Enchanted World

Chen Jianzhi (creating art through oxidation and reduction)

In the early days, the mountains of Beipu were rich in white sand, which was the original raw material for making glass. One by one, white sand was shipped from the Beipu Sand Washing Plant and processed by the Zhudong Glass Factory. The artworks created were sold abroad, and the research and development of daily-use glass was spread all over the country.

As time goes by, we invited glass craftsman Mr. Chen Jianzhi to Zhongshu Hall in Beipu to present his glass art works based on (oxidation and reduction) in the historic sites of Beipu, the birthplace of the glass industry.

Jian-Zhi Chen (Art is processed through oxidation and reduction)

The Beipu Mountains were once known for abundant white sand, a key ingredient for making glass. This sand was then processed at the Zhudong Glass Factory, the resultant glass artworks gained international recognition, contribution to the nationwide growth of glass crafting. The involvement of Jian-Zhi Chen, a skilled glass craftsman, in creating glass art based on oxidation and reduction adds an artistic and cultural dimension to the legacy of the glass industry in Beipu. This art exhibition at Beipu Zhongshu Hall provides a unique opportunity to showcase the intersection of history, craftsmanship, and artistic expression.

Wang Ziyun (Return to Childhood and Move Towards the Future)

When I was a child, my family often came here and wandered around the old Beipu settlement. A few years later, I wandered around Beipu again. I had already graduated from the Art School of Chicago and was ready to move on to the next stage of creation.

Before Wang Ziyun left Beipu, we invited her to bring her creations from the past few years back to this historic site full of memories and fun for the first exhibition. Wang Ziyun readily agreed to this art illustration and ceramic exhibition with the theme of (past, present and future).

The bear in Wang Ziyun's painting is named Eiku, a little bear who came to the ancient ruins from the moon. Eiku said that in the ancient ruins, as long as you pay attention, you can feel that Eiku came from the fantasy world of the moon, and the lei cha and persimmon in his hands.
