About
The location of the B&B faces the vast Pacific Ocean. I learned from the former owner that this place used to be a fishing village. Outside the embankment in front of us is a port, and fishing activities are also carried out under the sea. The fishing method here is called "fixed fishing net".
This type of fishing net has been around since the Japanese occupation a hundred years ago. It uses the characteristics of the Kuroshio current to create a funnel-shaped mesh with holes of varying sizes, allowing migrating fish to naturally enter. What's special is that the entrance to this net is also the exit, so fish can swim in and out. It is said that only 20% of the fish are caught.
This fishing method will not lead to overfishing, and can not only release fish for conservation, but also achieve the best freshness, which can effectively sustain marine resources. This inspired me to create a series of lamps, with three styles: 0 mesh, 100 mesh, and 1000 mesh. The glass is molded into a net shape, and then glass blocks symbolizing fish schools are placed in it. After baking together, the hot glass produces stickiness, and some will stick together, while others will fall off, forming a seemingly random texture.
